sports massage therapist
Oct 21st, 2009, 2:13pm

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good sports massage therapist in the local area? After Farmdale I'm feeling pretty good, but:

  a) I'm hoping any potential disposition toward particular injuries might be noticeable post-race. I'll be the first to admit I have less-than-perfect form.

  b) After running last night, I think I might have overdone things just a wee bit and would like to address those issues

  b) I just like to think I earned it!  Cheesy

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

I have gone to Dawn Miller, Valerie at the OSF Center for Health, and Terry at By Nature's Hand in Dunlap.  I've had very good results from all three.

Thanks Jim,

That's 2 for Dawn Miller. Someone at work just told me about her too. I like the fact that she said Dawn didn't inflict more pain in the process (always a good thing...).

Boyd's place (Steve Boyd) has fingers of steel; he'll get all of the knots out.  Smiley

If you feel good during an ultra, don't worry. You'll get over it.

Ha! Thanks, Ollie! "Fingers of steel," huh?

I've actually only had one massage before. The masseuse found one particularly bad knot in my back and was quite, shall I say, enthusiastic about working it out. Although I felt much better afterward, I've never silently suffered through such excruciating pain in my life, not even childbirth.

Jody Brown in West Peoria can also help you a lot.  She's a runner herself.

Oh yeah, that's worse than childbirth? I could believe it...I have knots the size of grapes all over my neck and along my spine and shoulder blades (a life of tension will do that, and throw in some decade-old nasty falls off my horse). My LMT likes to use some sort of trigger point therapy to work them out but holy mother do I want to SCREAM when she does it!

Thanks Elaine! I get my hair cut there, but I wasn't sure if their focus was more on frou-frou massages. I think I'll give her a try.

Yeah, your little beasties will most definitely be able to kick my frou-frou behind tomorrow morning. I'm still hoping to get up to join you for your first loop - in which case I'll still be mostly asleep.

If I'm not there by 6:15, don't wait - I'll just catch up with you at 8:00.
