You might have that at least partially right... Grin

Maybe you're angry at Krogers for some reason and that's why it spikes, which only makes you angrier... just a thought!  Now, what has Kroger done to you lately...?  Huh

Well...I don't know about the Kroger on Sterling, but the remodeling of the Lake Street Kroger made a lot of people extremely angry. To the lay person (i.e. customer), the new layout did not make immediate sense. Even though they provided maps, wayfinding staff members, family guides for geo-caching activities centered around finding the peanut butter in its new location by the gourmet coffees, and sherpas, I saw more angry citizen at that Kroger during the remodel than at any televised town hall meeting on health care. I think the free check-your-blood-pressure machine actually exploded.

What does this have to do with running?  Well...if you planned to have a rest day before your weekend long run, you couldn't prudently go shopping there the day before. If you did, you might well have logged 15-20 miles just trying to find the temporary hiding place of the sharp Vermont cheddar cheese (next to the Sudafed PE and star fruits).

I got a lot of good heart rate training in there.

Yes, the anticipation of the spike might be creating it.  Don't ever try to pass a lie detector.  Grin

On the topic of HRM's:  I was outside playing with mine today and doing some 1/2 mile repeats.  I first did a 1 mile warmup.  Heart rate slowly came up to about 160, then did some stretching and it dropped back down to around 130 before I started running again.  I then did my first 1/2 mile interval with my heart rate fluctuating up and down averaging 153.  It was my fastest interval of the four (I know, a whopping four)with an average pace of 6min/mi.  It wasn't until I completed the interval and began my 1/4 mile rest period that my heart rate shot up to above 180 before dropping steadily down as I recovered.  This was the only interval with odd heart rate readings, the rest steadily climbed to above 180 with peaks at 195 until my rest period.  I think it has to do with the way my body handles the greater effort while still energized and before oxygen debt.  I think the readings from the other day were also accurate, but I'll continue to keep an eye on it.

Has anyone else experienced a "delayed peak" of heart rate that occurs after the first interval of greater effort?  I'd like to think I'm not the only freak.  Huh

Maybe tighten your chest stap a little.  Seems to me it's getting false readings.  There is a slight (I emphasise slight) delay between effort and heartrate, but nothing like what you are seeing.  I usually hit my peak on intervals about 1 second after I stop.  That's the type of delay I'm talking about.  Also, if the sensor areas of the strap isn't wet (saliva or sweat works great), you will get erroneous readings.

Boston was my last marathon (now this Ultra thing might be a different story)
