Just received the usual email blurb from Road Runners Sports, but this one included a note from their "Chief Runner" about the dangers of barefoot running:
Dear Runner, I care about your health and well-being. That's why when I hear headlines talking about the supposed benefits of "barefoot running"...I can't stay quiet!
Don't blindly follow the latest trend. This barefoot running thing is a major injury waiting to happen. Roads and trails are littered with pea size rocks just waiting to take a big bite out of your feet and leave you sidelined for weeks.
Look, there are some great shoes to help you run "Minimalist". Just try the Nike Free or LunarGlide. Now, while I am glad the Chief Runner is concerned about my well-being and the concept of running barefoot escapes me, I can't help but feel there is a conflict of interest here when a company selling running shoes warns me about the hazards of running without shoes. Just a thought.
