Paul, I have experienced the ankle swelling after McNaughton and also after the "fun run" with you last Saturday/Sunday. I noticed on Monday night that my left ankle was swollen (but not painful). I think in my case (and maybe in yours as well) it's just general wear and tear from being on your feet for that time. I didn't ice it or do anything, and by Tuesday morning, it looked and felt fine. Is the shin pain in your front lower leg close to where your shin meets your ankle? I've battled that during/after McNaughton as well. Again, my theory is it's more of an overuse type of injury. In my case, sometimes I wouldn't feel it until over an hour or more into a run, and then it would come on and get progressively worse as time went on. I took it easy for a few weeks, cut way back on training, included more days with no running at all, and now it seems that it has gone away. I know how hard it is to cut back on training, especially now that the weather is nice and it's easier to get out and do more. And in your case, you probably feel like Superman after Kettle. But, give yourself some real easy, easy weeks with a lot of total rest days. Your fitness won't go away that quickly. Listen to what your body is telling you.
