McNaughton 2011
Nov 1st, 2010, 4:01pm

The list is getting longer for the 2011 McNaughton 200 miler.  No takers from Central Illinois, you all chicken????  Grin  Ryan Dexter is signed up again too, so far 12 included Mike Matteson from Carbondale IL.  200 miles is a TON of fun you should give it a shot, and no more beautiful of a place than the Green Mountains in Vermont (they even still have dinosaurs roaming the woods out there).

no...you're incorrect....there is ONE taker from central IL....but really, he's not right in the head and we all worry about him

I saw Jim Cooks name on the list and got excited for a split second thinking that our Jack Cook was signed up!

I'll wait till i have a few 100's completed before I think of 200

They do have a 150 mile option - though I like how Andy has it showing up below the 200 mile option...  Grin

Yes, pretty cool, I did see that Mike Matteson is signed up but technically he is from Southern Illinois.

Andy does have a 150 mile option and then also a 100 mile fun run and then a 30 mile "mini"  I think I may have my wife talked into going this year and running the 30 mile and then my 13 year old son Elijah also running the 30 mile.  That would actually give me 60 miles of pacers this time, maybe then they can fight off the dinosaurs for me.

Where is the link for these races?  All I found was last year's site and it just lists a 50 and 100 for 2011.

you're looking at the wrong McNaughton

the local race is a 50/100

the guy who founded the local race at McNaughton park moved to VT and decided that since he put so much work into building the McN park race he was going to take the name with him.....so he started a race by the same name in VT.

so now, out of professional courtesy the people who RD the local race renamed it tot he Pottawatomie Trail run......even though its still at McNaughton park

confused yet? Smiley

potawatomi (keepers of the fire)=folks that used to hang out in the woods before folks like us were around to run trails where they used to hang out.

see:  mississippian culture, illiniwek, sauk, fox, kickapoo  see also:  black hawk war of 1832/battle (massacre) of bad axe

evolution of mcN park race distances:  50, 50k/50, 10/30/50/100, 30/50/100, 50/100/150, 50/100.  no idea what rich will do in the future, but the last time i spoke with him he was happy with the current configuration.

There are no talks of it for 2011 but you could always put a request in.  You could always pace someone for 10 or 30 miles in the spring though.

I dont really think he is leaning towards the direction of the 10 or 30 in the spring but I have been warned that the 150 mile option will be back in 2012, so kind of in the opposite direction, great direction although opposite.
