anyone have any experience in successfully treating a strained hamstring?

I have had good success with compression wraps.  I prefer the MaxWrap product because I can adjust the amount of compression.  Massages have also been very helpful for me; there are some very good massage therapists in the area.  I have also used the Trigger Point products.  Hamstring strengthening exercises also help; I am still gathering input on the best types of exercises for such an injury.  What I REALLY want do to is discover why I am prone to these injuries in the first place.

i had a pretty bad one in 2009......i didnt warm up enough and then immediately dove into some hard high speed intervals.....a few miles in i had some serious pain and had to walk back home rather than run as planned.
 
I found that a few weeks of rest and stretching as well as some strength training (after it was healed) really helped
 
I haven't had that particular problem since then!

Dont forget to do some core work too. That can eleviate some of the workload on the hamstrings, particularly a gimpy one.
