Pat Arnold reminded me, Boston Marathon registration opens today for those who are 20+ minutes faster than their qualifying time.

Registration is now closed.  If you ran a time 1:14 faster than your qualifying time (or faster), you got accepted.  They had to reject more than 3000 applicants.  Since next year's qualifying times are 5 minutes faster, I assume everyone that meets these times will get in.

I think I'm OK with this.  The race can only accommodate so many runners.  If Boston does not do anything it risks becoming nothing special.  I know many would disagree, especially those who struggle to make the existing time cuts and for whom this has been a dream to accomplish.  The reason people hope to run it is because of its exclusivity.  You have to draw a line somewhere.

Actually I am a little surprised they turned down only 3,000 or so (14%) of the applicants.  I would have thought it would be much higher based on the new criteria for registering.  Good luck to those from the Peoria area who made it through the process.   Smiley
