Farmdale Trail Orienteering Race Nov 11-12
Nov 1st, 2011, 1:07pm

Orienteering race on Nov 11-12 at Farmdale

6-8pm Start (whenever you want during that time) on Friday night for the Night-O race

Saturday start time is not announced (to me at least) yet but will also be a window.  There will be a Foot Orienteering race and a Mountain Bike Orienteering race.

I did one last month and I highly recommend!

I am really excited for this event. What could be better than running around Farmdale at night?
(That was a rhetorical question, by the way.)

where did we lose you, Josh ? :-P

An orienteering race is a race where instead of having a nicely marked course you get a map with check points on it, you also get a punch card.  you run to each check point in order and punch your card and then back to the finish.

You get a clue sheet which has little pictorials to help you figure out where the check point is (example: check point 2 is on the north side of a big rock.....or Check point 4 is on the south end of a fence line...etc)

It's pretty fun..... there's an extra dimension to the race since the course is not defined.   two runners/teams could pick different routes to the same check point.

Its awesome.

I am going to be really excited if the Cougar Hill Cairn is one of the man-made landmarks!

OK, I'm going to be there.  Trying to get Al to join the fun.  Gotta find my headlamps and gloves.

did you all have fun?

the night run was a surprise for me...didn't know they were doing the Rogaine format....
The day foot-o was a blast and the bike O was good too, but I didn't do as well there since I'm a bike noob.  IRVOC did a great job hosting the event
